The Shepard Exec Board

(Updated for Spring Quarter 2010)

Ian Coley — President

The President is the official representative of Shepard and is ultimately responsible for the welfare of the college. He chairs the weekly Exec Board and SCC meetings.

Ian is a freshman in Weinberg, majoring in Math and Classics, with a concentration in Latin. He hails from the hallowed shores of Columbus, Ohio, a place long shrouded in mystery. His hobbies include embarrassing himself on the piano, giving impromptu fascist speeches, and generally putting people ill at ease. He enjoys Joy Yee's, typing really fast, and exuding Shep pride from every pore.

Niabi Schmaltz — Vice President

The Vice President assists the President in running the college. She is responsible for planning New Student Week activities, scheduling the dorm’s public rooms, housing points, and maintaining Shepard's test files.

Niabi Schmaltz is a political science major in Weinberg, with a possible minor in Religious Studies. She is from the beautiful state of Wisconsin; and contrary to popular belief, her neighbors aren't farmers nor cows. She loves to play piano and sing, and is a member of the Alice Millar Chapel choir. Her deepest desires are to learn to speak in a Russian accent and to meet Harrison Ford.

Leah North - Secretary

The Secretary writes and posts the weekly minutes from Shepard Exec Board and SCC meetings. The weekly minutes traditionally are placed inside bathroom stalls throughout Shepard.

Leah North is an Anthropology major who will probably end up with a degree in Spanish as well. When she's not doing insane amounts of readings for all of her classes, she enjoys time watching shows like Bones and Dexter and laughing with her friends into all hours of the night. Even though she's from the area, going into Chicago on the weekends never fails to make her giddy and she has an unhealthy obsession with riding the El. She loves watching old black and white movies, so if you ever need someone to waste a few hours watching classic Hollywood films with, she's your girl.

Abby Hawley — Treasurer

The treasurer sets the dorm’s budget and manages transactions involving Shepard funds.

Abby is from Bainbridge Island, Washington. As a freshman in McCormick (What, what! Represent!), she aims to build things that are sometimes useful to some people. Or something. Her hobbies include thizzing, gettin stoopid, and krumpin'. One time she guest starred in an episode of Melrose Place. That was a lie. Her pet peeves include getting glued to the ceiling and getting mono. If you ever want to talk about Backstreet Boys or any other 90s pop band, she's your gal!

Paul Keithley — Academic Chair

The Academic Development Chair coordinates the dorm's weekly firesides and works to enhance the academic experiences of all Sheep.

Paul is a History and (tentatively) Psychology double major, hailing from the great state of Kansas. When he is not jumping in surprise from when sirens go off, he enjoys watching movies, fencing, and honing other skills that will be useful in his conquest to take over the world.

Katie Bock — Alumni Chair

The newly established Alumni Chair is responsible for researching past Shepard residents and traditions, as well as forming a network for current Sheep to connect with alumni.

Katie Bock is a pre-med from a small town near Decatur, IL, trying her best to get into the creative writing program. She hopes to be a psychiatrist, and spends her time doing Chemistry, doing Chemistry, socializing, and doing Chemistry. She's a proud member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and she likes naps, Taboo, the Lakefill, and Shepard. She is pictured as a deliriously happy member of the Shepard DM team.

Rachel Schwartz — Faculty Chair

The Faculty Chair is responsible for maintaining and coordinating interaction with Shepard’s faculty fellows. She coordinates the faculty liaisons program and other events, such as faculty lunches, Sunday night dinners, and faculty teas. She often works with the Academic Chair to plan firesides.

Rachel, a proud New York City native, is planning on becoming a philosophy and psychology major some day. She also enjoys singing, hopefully not pissing off her neighbors too much. Her main involvements on campus are the Ritual Life Committee at the Hillel, the Jewish a cappella group, ShireiNU, ECO (environmental campus outreach), and, of course, Shepard Exec. One of her favorite activities is telling people her name in its correct Hebrew pronunciation, and watching their reactions.

Celeste Mora — Social Chair

The Social Chairs organize social events for Shepard including weekly munchies, themed parties, and outings.

Celeste is a pre-med kid who is working on majoring in English and Biology. She hopes to go into some king of public health field in the future, and loves to volunteer. She also enjoys all good music, spicy food, adventures, and singing loudly in the stairwell. She is involved with NOM (the NU foodie group), was on the Shepard DM team, mentors a student with Supplies for Dreams, and can be found making tea on rainy days and doing yoga on the lakefill on sunny ones! If you ever want to talk about the meaning of life or travel to a thrift store in chi-town, hit her up!

Katherine Cooney — Philanthropy Chair

The Philanthropy Chair organizes philanthropy events for Shepard, and informs Sheep about volunteer opportunities on and off campus.

Katherine Cooney is a Medill freshman soon to be sophomore most likely setting her concentration in magazine writing. As a 5'10" ginger, it's hard to miss her walking the halls of Shep, but fortunately meeting new people is one love on her long list, so if you see her around, make her day and introduce yourself! Along with serving the wonderful residents of Shepard, she spends her time writing for NU Intel, working at the library, attending Peer Adviser meetings, drinking Starbucks, organizing dance parties in the penthouse, practicing her atrocious French pronunciation and and taking day-long adventures into the wonderful city of Chicago. She's a sucker for talent, so if you have anything worth showing off, go find her!

Lee Fan — Tech Chair

The Tech Chair maintains the Shepard website, manages the ListServ, and keeps the Shepard computer equipment running smoothly. He is available to help Sheep with their technical disasters.

Lee comes from the Old Line State of Maryland, and is taking on a dual degree in Viola Performance and Computer Engineering. He enjoys sleeping, eating, coding, musicking, gaming, and sleeping. His ambitions include pioneering in quantums computing, becoming a conductor, and world domination. Feel free to ask him anything about electronics and technology, or stop by and play a round of mahjong!
